Rules and conditions for the general public courses

1. Who can register?

Anyone 18 years or older can register for level 1 courses.

Because openness and inclusion are essential values at the ÉÉAM, the school strives to accommodate everyone interested in fine woodworking. If you are living with a functional limitation and have questions about your capacity to take a course, please contact us to talk about it.

2. How do the prerequisites work for level 2 and higher courses?

2.1. Prerequisites

For level 2 and higher courses, you must have completed the prerequisite course(s) or have an equivalency. The prerequisites for each course are given in the “COURSE PREREQUISITES” section on the page for the corresponding course on our website.

2.2. Declaration

When you register on the Qidigo platform, you must fill out a form attesting that you have the prerequisites required for this course. This form includes a list of the equipment used and the techniques taught that you must have mastered.

2.3. Evaluating an equivalency

If you would like to have an equivalency evaluated, we can guide you in this process. To do this, you must send us a photograph of what you have produced or a certificate attesting that you have passed a course taken in another institution. Send us your documents or a link through our contact form.

2.4. Consequences in the case of non-valid prerequisites

ATTENTION: When you attend your first class, if it is observed that you do not have the prerequisites or the knowledge necessary to take a level 2 or higher course for which you have registered, you will not be allowed to participate for safety reasons.

3. Can young people take courses?

Yes, the ÉÉAM offers Youth/Adult courses, open to children 10 years and older, accompanied by an adult. Find out about the available courses.

4. What is the difference between a program and a course?

A program is a learning path that groups a series of courses together to advance a skill. For example, the Technique I program is a learning path in furniture making involving five courses that are also offered individually.

Registering for a program has certain advantages. To find out more, read about our programs.

7. What should I do if the course that interests me is full?

Each course has a limited number of participants. Places may open up if people deregister.

  • Keep an eye on the Qidigo platform: A few days before the course begins, check the registration page again to see if a place has opened up.
  • Subscribe to our newsletter: you will be informed about when our upcoming program begins.

8. Can I change my registration?

You can change your registration free of charge.

Take the same course but change groups

You can change groups by writing to us via the Qidigo messaging system or by using our contact form.

Change courses

If you want to change courses, we will issue a credit for your first registration, then you can register for the new course chosen. To do this, write to us via the Qidigo messaging system or use our contact form.

9. Could my course be delayed or cancelled?

In certain exceptional cases, the schedule for a course may change. If a change is necessary, everyone registered will be contacted and consulted.

If the ÉÉAM is unable to offer a course, for any reason whatsoever, we will inform you as quickly as possible. We will then offer new dates, if possible, or we will issue a full reimbursement.

10. What is included in the cost for the course?

10.1. Practical workshop courses

Unless otherwise indicated, the registration fee for the practical workshop courses includes:

  • The materials for the exercises and the project
  • Access to manual tools and machine tools
  • The loan of safety equipment (you may use your own if you have it)
  • Documentation, if applicable

Therefore, unless otherwise indicated, all the materials required for your course are provided, according to the model presented. For more information, consult the tab “Materials to bring” in the “COURSE PLAN” section of the page for your course.

10.2. Theoretical courses

Unless otherwise indicated, the registration fees for theoretical courses include:

  • Educational materials for the exercises, if applicable
  • Access to computers and software, if applicable
  • Documentation, if applicable

11. Do I have to supply tools or protective equipment?

We lend you all the tools and protective equipment (earplugs, safety goggles) necessary. You can also use your own safety equipment if you have it.

12. How do I dress safely?

For your safety, it is essential to wear appropriate work clothing. This means that you must cover your body from knees to neck (avoid very short sleeves or short pants), wear fitted clothing, and tuck your top into your pants. You must also wear closed shoes to avoid any risk of injury to the feet.

It is also important not to wear bandages or splints on your limbs to minimize the risk of accidents.

13. What happens if I’m late for a class?

The trainer may not allow you to join the group if instructions on using machines and safety instructions have already been given and this information is essential to guaranteeing your safety on the machines.

14. What happens if I miss a class?

If you miss a class in a course (for example, one of the two Saturdays), unfortunately it will not be possible to make up the class or to be reimbursed for it. In addition, depending on the learning missed, you may not be able to continue your training or complete your project. If you have any questions, please contact us.

15. What happens if I miss a class in a program?

If, before you register, you already know that you will miss one or more classes in one of the program’s courses, it is preferable to delay your registration until you are completely available in order to take full advantage of the training path.

If a major incident occurs during your program that prevents you from attending a session, you may, depending on the situation, be able to make it up through the assisted workshops included in your program.

If, however, your absence keeps you from acquiring the skills necessary to meet the prerequisites for the following courses, your registration for these courses, and therefore for the program, may be cancelled (with reimbursement under the conditions detailed in point 17). Contact us for more information.

ATTENTION: Absence from classes deemed essential to safety in the workshop will lead to deregistration from the program and to the loss of associated privileges, such as: attestation of training, access to assisted free workshops, and registration for the next levels of the program (if applicable).

16. Under what conditions can I withdraw from a course?

You can cancel your registration at any time by writing to us via the Qidigo messaging system or using our contact form. Your cancellation will take effect when we receive your email.

Cancellation before the course begins: full reimbursement of registration fees paid.

Cancellation after the course begins, the following costs will be deducted from your reimbursement:

  • The cost of classes already taken
  • A penalty set out by law, corresponding to the smaller of the following amounts: $50 or 10% of the price of the classes not taken

18. What behaviour is expected during courses at the ÉÉAM?

The ÉÉAM’s code of conduct is based on three essential principles: self-respect, respect for others, and respect for the environment.

  • Self-respect is gained by the discovery and development of one’s skills and by the acquisition of autonomy and a sense of responsibility, notably with regard to health and safety in the workshop. IMPORTANT: For safety reasons, participants must ensure that nothing on their person (rings, long hair, loose clothing, etc.) compromises their safety or the operation of the machines.
  • Respect for others is built through mutual assistance, cooperation, and courteous, polite, respectful exchanges.
  • Respect for the environment involves taking care of materials and participating in cleaning to guarantee clean and safe premises.
