Les surfaces EN • Carving wood textures
CO-LINGUAL COURSE
Add character to your wood projects
This course is designed as a hands-on workshop for exploring techniques and surface effects. You will create a series of samples on wood, putting into practice the carving, coloring, and surface treatment techniques you have learned.
You’ll leave with a range of practical samples, truly useful reference tools that you can reuse to enhance your projects in sculpture, woodworking, or the restoration of antique furniture.
PLEASE NOTE : This course is co-lingual (French–English), which means that francophone and anglophone participants form a single group and attend the same classes. The trainer adjusts the language of teaching to accommodate the group or alternates between French and English. All participants may speak the language of their choice, and the trainer will make sure that everyone understands the content.
It is not necessary to be bilingual to register, but basic understanding of both languages may be helpful. Because this course is based on manual work and individual exploration, it is particularly well suited to this way of working. We consider linguistic diversity an asset, and we ask that you show inclusiveness, kindness, and respect.

Answers to frequently asked questions about creating wood textures
What is wood texture carving?
Wood texturing involves modifying the surface of the wood to create reliefs, patterns, or visual effects by working with the material. It can involve both removing material (cutting, carving) and adding effects (texture, coloring).
Les surfaces EN course introduces you to the main techniques for creating textures on wood, such as carving with gouges, marking, raising the grain, and layering materials and colors. You will gain hands-on experience with the tools, techniques, and how the wood responds, in order to understand how each step transforms the surface.
Why add decorative textures to wood?
Adding decorative textures to wood enhances its appearance, creates effects that highlight the grain, and personalizes an object or piece of furniture. They transform plain surfaces into visually rich and unique pieces.
Through demonstrations and guided experiments, you’ll explore different ways to enhance a wooden surface by combining textures and finishes, such as milk paint, stains, and stamping.
What kinds of projects can you do with wood textures?
Wood textures can be applied to a wide variety of decorative and functional projects, whether on objects, furniture, or wall panels. Consider, for example, the lid of a box adorned with engravings or the legs of a table that have been stamped and colored.
In this course, you’ll create your own custom samples, which will serve as references for your future projects. You’ll be able to apply these techniques to practical projects, such as customizing cabinet doors, adding texture to tabletops, or refurbishing existing furniture. You’ll develop ideas that can be quickly put into practice to enhance your projects and give them character.
