L’apprenti.e 3 EN • Solid wood coffee table
Essential woodworking techniques
This course is a follow-up to L’apprenti.e 2 EN. It allows you to build on the skills you’ve learned regarding machine tools. You will build a red oak coffee table using more complex woodworking techniques. This project allows you to practice laminating a tabletop, wrapping the legs, and creating mortise-and-tenon joints. You will also experiment with shaping the tabletop using a router and a tracing template.

Answers to frequently asked questions about making furniture
How do you make a solid wood laminated tabletop?
A laminated solid wood panel is made by gluing several wooden planks together to form a wide, stable surface. This technique helps minimize the natural warping of the wood, which is more pronounced in wider pieces.
In L’apprenti.e 3 EN course, you will learn how to select boards, arrange them according to the grain of the wood, and then prepare and glue them with precision to create a strong, durable laminated tabletop.
What is a tapered leg, and how is it used in woodworking?
A tapered leg is a furniture leg that tapers toward the bottom to create a sleeker appearance. In woodworking, it is used to visually lighten the structure of a piece of furniture and add style.
Various techniques can be used to make these cuts. This course allows you to try out a technique for trimming legs on a table saw using a specialized carriage.
What are a router and a tracing template used for in woodworking?
A tracing template is used to accurately reproduce a shape on one or more pieces of wood. It allows you to create identical, even, and clean cuts, even for curved or complex shapes.
In this class, you’ll use a tracing template in combination with the router to shape the tabletop. This approach allows you to follow a precise pattern and achieve a consistent result, while gaining experience with the plunge router.
By taking this course, you will learn how to use templates to consistently and efficiently reproduce shapes in your woodworking projects. You will gain greater precision and confidence in using specialized tools.
